If you like getting into the weeds, here’s everything behind our bushes.
The main difference between IPL and laser is the type of light used. IPL or intense pulsed light, is a broadband pulsed light, whereas laser is a single monochromatic light source. IPL and laser technologies both target the melanin in the hair follicle and you can expect permanent results from both. Energy, frequency and hair colour are all determining factors in the efficacy of the treatment, while the light source, whether it is a laser or an intense pulsed flash light plays a minor role.
Yes! Each handset comes with a limited 1 year manufacturer’s warranty. If your handset stops working due to a manufacturing defect, it is eligible for a full replacement at no cost to you. You can read more details about our warranties here in our terms of service here.
Unfortunately not all hair and skin types are suitable for IPL treatment. Generally speaking, IPL and laser hair removal do not work on blonde and red hair or very dark skin. Check out our handy chart below for more information
*Smiley faces mean that Nood will work on that combo of skin and hair color. Sad faces means it likely will not be effective.
Unlike laser hair removal, IPL or intense pulsed light hair removal is generally considered to be much safer and less painful. This is because IPL uses a multi-spectrum bulb vs a single-wavelength laser. You may feel a slight tingle in sensitive areas during treatment, but it should not be painful.
You should see up to 80% hair removal following the scheduled treatment plan. When using your device, you are destroying hair follicles that are currently in the ‘anagen’ hair growth phase. It is possible that hairs that were not in the ‘anagen’ phase during treatment will still grow. This is why we recommend doing maintenance treatment once every 1-2 months as needed.
The short answer is no. The light energy will be more attracted to the pigments in the skin than the melanin in your hair, which can lead to bad skin reactions. You should always use your nood handset around your tattoos.
Absolutely! Men and women can both use the Nood handset
Yes! Our IPL handset can be used effectively on hormonal based hair growth.
There have been numerous scientific studies on the effectiveness of IPL technology. See Pubmed for more information.
We recommend using your handset twice per week for the first two months to see permanent results and then once every 3-6 months as needed for touchup. There is no need to use it more than twice a week, as IPL is only effective in the growing phase of your hair cycle.
The Nood handset is effective to use everywhere that hair grows, including your arms, underarms, hands, legs, chin, neck, back, and bikini line. It is not recommended to use around your eyes without protective eyewear.
Unfortunately no. The flashing can be triggering for people with Epilepsy.
There is no evidence that IPL is harmful to use during pregnancy, but we recommend waiting until after pregnancy to use our handset.
For the health of your skin, it is recommended to wait at least 2 weeks after tanning before using your handset. If you have a sunburn, you should not use the device for at least one month.
No. You will need to wait until after your spray on tan has faded to use the handset effectively.
You should not use the Nood handset or do any IPL treatment over dark freckles or moles. Light freckles are fine.
Yes, you should shave the entire treatment area before using your handset. The easier it is for the light from the handset to hit your hair follicle the more effective it will be. The hair follicle does need to be intact for IPL to be effective, which means no waxing, plucking, threading or epilating before treatment.
You should only shave. Waxing, plucking, threading, and epilation can all reduce the effectiveness of your treatment. This is because the hair follicle needs to be in tact in order for IPL to work.
Yes! Nood is very effective in removing peach fuzz or thin hair as long as that hair is not light blonde.
Yes! We’ve designed our handset to be effective and safe to use on individuals with sensitive skin.
The device uses a standard wall outlet and needs to be plugged in during treatment. Don’t worry though. The cord is long enough so you can use it comfortably and conveniently wherever you choose.
If you’re using your device as directed, protective eyewear is not required. Our handsets come with a sensor that prevents them from flashing until the entire window is pressed against your skin.
You can care for your handset by simply cleaning the window with a wet paper towel.
Yes. A black spot or dark window will not change the effectiveness of your device.
Your device comes with 5 different intensity levels. These effect the amount of light that is delivered in each pulse. Generally speaking, the higher intensity level, the faster you’ll see results. However, we recommend starting at level 3 and working up or down based on your skin’s sensitivity. Do the highest level of intensity that your skin can tolerate. You’ll be able to tell how sensitive your skin is with 1-2 test flashes on the treatment area.
Yes this is completely normal. Any remnant hair can be burned during the treatment process. This does not impact the effectiveness of the treatment.
Yes of course. Share the love as much as you want. We highly recommend it!
We recommend waiting at least 7 days to use retinol or acid based skincare treatments (i.e. Hyaluronic acid) before and after treatment with Nood.
Accutane can greatly increase skin sensitivity. If you have taken or currently take Accutane, the safest time to start treatment with Nood is typically 6 months after completing Accutane.
